 Seo techniques refer to the strategies used to make a website popular among search engines. The arena is constantly changing, as the browsing public becomes more demanding of higher quality search engine results.

 Yes, that is what I said.  Forget about the search engines.  Build your web page according to the people you intend to market it to.  Adding keywords to an article is secondary to creating an article people will actually read.  Adding a link to a Rebecca Black video just because it's popular will undermine the integrity and professionalism of your site (unless your site's about music etc). 

 Building a high quality web site that will appeal to visitors will do more for your business than a quick trip to the top of the search engine rankings.  Everything you do to increase search engine optimization should also improve real people optimization. 

 A Word About Words

 Search engines have gotten wise the utter abuse some keywords have suffered.  Again, think of the reader before you obsess over a keyword.  Keywords should flow naturally, and certainly don't have to pop up in every second sentence to perform their function. 

 Keywords are the main subject or topic of your site.  LSI (latent semantic indexing), however is just as important to gain credence among search engines.  LSI refers to other words or phrases outside the initial keyword that help flesh out the content of the site.  For example, a site about potty training would (or at least should) include talk about diapers, pull ups, toddlers, bladder control and so on. 

 This is the type of information that search engines use to determine if a site is about potty training children or paper training a puppy.  Again, adding content that is high quality and relevant to consumers will naturally increase the value of your page among search engines.

 Utilizing social media sights for marketing has been a growing trend for the last couple of years.  However, social media is starting to show relevance as an effective SEO technique.   Search engines are starting to give higher results to pages and sites that are popular among twitter, facebook and other social media sites. 

 Which links get passed around amongst social networks?  The ones that real, live people enjoyed and wanted to share.  Again (and I really can't stress this enough), the best way to build search engine ranking for your website is to put people first and the search engines second.  Quality, quality, quality.  If content is the king of all SEO techniques, then quality must be its queen.
